Position Title: Digital & Communications Intern
Manager: Christina Poindexter

2022
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Gephardt Institute for Civic and Community Engagement is a non-profit, non-partisan institute that creates pathways for WashU students to become lifelong engaged citizens and civic leaders. Connecting WashU students to local communities and opportunities within Saint Louis—as well as nationally—the Institute strives to prepare college students to be active members of their communities. At Gephardt, the MarComms team is primarily responsible for handling publicity, campaign development, and and marketing organizational events and opportunities.

I interned at the Jane Lombard Gallery during the summer of 2022 (June-August), where I focused on supporting the Gallery Director with publicity efforts. This included creating press and media releases, checklists, and responding to inquiries, as well as spearheading digital marketing initiatives primarily on Instagram. Since gallery exhibitions last six weeks, my major efforts revolved around the buildup and public opening of “PUNCHLINE,” while also working to publicize and market future shows.
RESPONSIBILITIES
01| SOCIAL MEDIA
To generate greater media awareness for the gallery, my primary focus was on informing the strategy and release of social media content. I conducted market research on successful galleries, such as Gagosian, PPOW, and David Zwirner, to shape our brand identity. After analyzing effective short-form video templates, I curated and developed our own template to highlight our work and artists.
Following the successful implementation of this social media template, I produced and executed biweekly videos for our accounts, as well as drafted and created static posts for our Instagram.

02 | PUBLICITY
03 | ADMINISTRATION
03 | OVERALLS
I assisted the Gallery Director in preparing publicity materials for the upcoming group exhibition, “PUNCHLINE: CURATED BY PRAISE SHADOWS ART GALLERY.” In this role, I helped draft the press release, edited and oversaw the publication of the exhibition checklist, and managed press inquiries while facilitating communication with the exhibited artists. During the opening night of the exhibition, I represented the gallery by answering questions, photographing the event, and publicizing highlighted articles about the opening.
In addition to my work on “PUNCHLINE,” I was responsible for writing and updating articles on our represented artists, helping to publicize their status and exhibitions to raise awareness of their work.
During the relaunch of our official website, I played a key role in its weekly maintenance. My responsibilities included updating the opportunities page, refreshing biographies, and monitoring online submissions.
Through these combined efforts, Jane Lombard Gallery’s online presence was able to increase follower count by 7%, and reach by 244% to total of 32.4k viewers. In addition, the social media template I developed for the gallery is still in use, speaking to the effectiveness of the installed model.
